The Copperstone Inn is primarily a project of Richard Spanton Jr. and his wife Chrissie, since the bed and breakfast lies only 500 yards away from their home in Rockton, Illinois. Richard Spanton Jr. is all about family business, though, so his mother Saundra Spanton will be aiding in the day to day operations management of the inn as soon as the finishing touches on the renovations are complete. Family business is nothing new to Richard Spanton Jr., as he helps run an elk farm in Wisconsin with his father Richard Spanton Sr., his mother Saundra, his brother Matt and his grandfather Dave.
Saundra Spanton will be assisting Richard Spanton Jr. and Chrissie Spanton in one of the most important aspects of running this bed and breakfast – creative inspiration for the food. Since Richard Spanton Jr. believes that his mother is one of the best cooks he has ever witnessed in his life, he jumped at the chance to hand the responsibility of Saundra’s Cookery over to his mom. This will allow her to share some of her magic with the people who come to the bed and breakfast. Richard Spanton Jr. couldn’t be prouder.
Saundra’s Cookery will utilize her knowledge of baking that comes from her mother and her Norwegian decent. Richard Spanton Jr. is looking forward to providing his guests with many delicious dishes thanks to his mother’s recipes. From her famous scrambled eggs and homemade waffles to succulent pastries, cookies and pies, Saundra will give visitors quite a treat. And since Richard Spanton Jr. and his wife Chrissie own and operate their own apple orchard, Saundra’s Dutch Apple Pie will be as fresh and succulent as possible.
Richard Spanton Jr., Chrissie Spanton and Saundra Spanton hope you will enjoy a stay at Copperstone Inn someday if your find yourself in Rockton. The fall pumpkin picking season is a great time to visit, by the way.

As if running a successful roofing, siding and gutters business wasn’t enough, Richard Spanton Jr. and his wife Chrissie Spanton are now putting the last finishing touches on their luxury bed and breakfast in Rockton, Illinois. Although the primary business, Mastercraft Exteriors, takes up most of Richard’s time, he and his wife Chrissie have kept extra busy with the construction for this inn. The original limestone home that Richard Spanton Jr. purchased was built in 1858, giving them an exact grand opening of 150 years.
Richard Spanton Jr. and his wife Chrissie Spanton are proud to be owners and proprietors of the Copperstone Inn, which boasts four rooms with Jacuzzi tubs for two, king beds and double vertical spa showers, as well as flat screen TVs with Dish Network in each room. Chrissie and Richard Spanton Jr. also decided to install a mini spa and a bar/game room to the bed and breakfast to keep guests coming back. And Richard Spanton Jr. even got creative with themes for each room – he and his wife came up with the Western Room, 1850s Barn Room, 1850s Limestone Room, Victorian Room, Walnut Room, Apple Cider Room and Wine Cellar Room.
With all the renovations and additions that Richard Spanton Jr. and his family made to the building, the Copperstone Inn now spans more than 8,000 square feet. The inn is intended to give the comfortable feeling of home with lush décor and antique furnishings. Richard Spanton Jr., along with his wife Chrissie and mother Saundra, who share in the duties of running the Copperstone Inn, say it is the most luxurious bed and breakfast in all of Rockton.
Richard Spanton Jr. has never been content to work on one project at a time. Although he gives a great deal of concentration to his work with Mastercraft Exteriors, he and his family are extremely excited to be devoting their time to this new bed and breakfast.

Richard Spanton Jr. owns and operates a successful roofing, siding and gutters company, Mastercraft Exteriors, but having one flourishing business is not enough for such an ambitious man. One of the other “projects” that Richard Spanton Jr. works on is Golden Bear Monarchs Elk Farm, which was established in 2003. Richard Spanton Jr. . runs this elk farm together with his father Richard Spanton Sr. and his mother Saundra Spanton. His wife, Chrissie Spanton, also plays a crucial role with this and the other business ventures he is involved in.
The elk that belong to Richard Spanton Jr. and his family’s elk farm are able to roam across 180 acres of lush pasture in beautiful Southern Wisconsin. Richard Spanton Jr., Richard Spanton Sr. and Saundra Spanton have grown herds of 9 to 90 elk with the addition of numerous world class genetics over the last five years. This has enabled the Golden Bear Monarchs Elk Farm to receive 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place awards in various hard antler classes at the annual NAEBA international antler competition. This is a great source of pride for Richard Spanton Jr. and his family.
The experience that Richard Spanton Jr. has amassed since childhood has prepared him well for this project, since his family has raised pigs, cattle and grain for several generations. And Richard Spanton Jr., Chrissie Spanton, Richard Spanton Sr. and Saundra Spanton are not the only ones who have had a hand in this business – it’s a true multigenerational family affair. Even grandpa Dave Spanton helps with the farm on a daily basis and Richard’s brother Matt Spanton lends a hand with seasonal projects such as cutting antler, calving, and building fences.
Other projects that Richard Spanton Jr. works on include his own Orchard Ridge Farms and his soon to be completed Copperstone Inn, both of which are adjacent to he and wife Chrissie’s property. And he still manages to be successful with everything he touches, even with his hands in so many projects.

Richard Spanton Jr. has had many exciting adventures in his life recently, providing a rich set of experiences that stretch far beyond his successful business. As the proprietor of Mastercraft Exteriors, a national roofing, siding and gutter company, he has established himself as an ambitious business man with a focus on customer service. Richard Spanton Jr. has also established a number of side projects, and he has managed to find time to get married and spend time with his family.
Back in October of 2005, Richard Spanton Jr. fulfilled a lifelong dream and purchased his own farm, which is now known as Orchard Ridge Farms. His family farmed when he was a child, and at an early age he began growing his own pumpkins during the summers to sell on the side of the road during the fall. Once he bought the farm, Richard Spanton Jr. asked his then girlfriend Chrissie to marry him. This is when Richard Spanton Jr. cemented his future as a family man.
In July of 2006, Richard Spanton Jr. started another business venture that is still close to his heart. He and then fiancée Chrissie broke ground on Copperstone Inn. Now Chrissie and Richard Spanton Jr. are owners of their own Luxury Bed and Breakfast. Not long after that, on January 27, 2007, Rich Spanton Jr. married his longtime love Chrissie. The happy couple spent their honeymoon in Zihuatanejo, Mexico in February of 2007.
Chrissie and Richard Spanton Jr. share a love for traveling, which was recently indulged with a trip to Costa Rica in January of this year. The couple was accompanied by his father Richard Spanton Sr., his mother Saundra, his brother Matt and his sister Anna. The family enjoyed deep sea fishing, butterfly gardens, their hotel, the beach and horseback riding. Now he and Chrissie are refreshed and ready to get back to work with all the family businesses.

Richard Spanton Jr. did not want to use commercial insecticides, pesticides and herbicides; because he knew that parents would not want those things touching the foods they fed to their children. Instead, Richard Spanton Jr. opted to use organic alternatives such as beneficial insects and plants, which ensure that every apple is as friendly for human ingestion as possible.
Richard Spanton Jr. had goals of growing more than just apples when he started Orchard Ridge Farms, although the apple tress are definitely always going to be an integral part of the family business.
